The Mother & Infant Care of Mongu, Zambia

MIC is a program that supports HIV positive women in their fight against the illness by helping them seek alternatives to breastfeeding their newborn infants. The mother and infant receive appropriate nutritional support, education for HIV prevention, and information for preventative newborn care. New medicines are allowing the women to live longer, yet they still face the stigma associated with the disease. The women are seeking business knowledge to support themselves and their families. In 2011, WGC was able to secure funding for two new businesses.
