Return to
Global Business
Partners

Dorosta, a Global Business Partner
from Bukoba, opened her hair salon
about two years ago. She sees on
average three clients a day and charges
$2,000 TZS for a hairdo. A great
challenge for her has been to deal with
clients who make payment promises but
never really follow through. During an
interview at her business location the
WGC team stressed the need for
assertiveness and refusal in providing
services for clients who cannot afford
payment.

The capital Dorosta received from the
GBP program was used to buy hair
supplies, items necessary for carrying
out her business. They have to be
replaced frequently and only a certain
amount of profit can ensure the
purchase of basic items. Outside
Dorosta’s front door there is a big sign
indicating her services. In the living
room she placed a mat where she sits
and lays her clients over her lap to do
their hair.

Dorosta plans to have a hair salon in a
different location where she can be
easily found by new customers. She is
also concern about having a more
professional look. Nevertheless she
recognizes the advantages of being able
to conduct her business from home
since her three hildren are not yet at
school age and needs itensive care.
