Jeni has managed her petty trade/kiosk business for a few years. From a wooden stand about her height she smiles at customers who come for different goods including match boxes, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair products, rice, water, beer, soda, salt, sugar, etc. During an interview last October, Jeni explained that her best selleing products are beer, salt, sugar, and water. Located at a main
paved road, Jeni’s business takes advantage of good
automobile and pedestrian traffic.
By being situated right next to her house, Jeni can run her business while she is taking care of house chores. Her retired husband is recruited sometimes to assist clients while Jeni is cooking or attending to other demands. Jeni showed great confidence about her business skills, stressing that she is a really good advertiser for her business. She often checks on other similar shops to assess the types of products they are selling and prices being charged.

Her US Global Partnership allowed her to create a good inventory,
buying in bulk and paying competitive prices for her products. She has a good relationship
with suppliers and she visits other businesses to compare products and prices frequently.
Jeni’s entrée as a BUWEA member allowed
her access to capital and helped her to increase
her business profits. Feasible ideas on how to go
about improving her kiosk business have inspired
her to borrow more capital aiming at becoming a
local beer wholesaler. She plans to buy
umbrellas and set some nice tables in front of her
shop to provide a more inviting place for social
interaction. It should create better opportunities
for sale and profit generation.
