Mamelitha is from Kabale Village, in Bukoba District. She is 50 years old and a widow with 6 children and a number of grand children that she also cares for. Four years ago Mamelitha started a retail shop in her village. She sells everything in small quantity which is affordable by the villagers. She received a loan to start her business from the BUWEA Revolving Loan Fund. Her first investment was of 50,000 Tanzanian Shillings (about $45 USD). Now she wants to expand her business and build a larger shop to be able to increase her profits and better care for her children and grandchildren.
