Mamelitha Boneface lives in Kabale Village, in Bukoba
rural. Like many other women in the region she
struggles to find ways to support her nuclear and
extended family. About four years ago Mamelitha
received a loan of $50 dollars from Bukoba
Revolving Fund.
She used the capital to diversify her inventory, selling items such as rice, beans, flour, match boxes, cooking oil, coffee berries, soap, sugar, salt, and some other basic products that are in high demand in the villages.
Her shop is located on her farm right next to her house. The proximity to her house allows Mamelitha to take care of her house chores and at the same time assist her clients.
During our visit Mamelitha showed her bookkeeping and demonstrated that she is a very organized business owner. She keeps notes of all the sales and profits she makes on a daily basis. Her goal is to add a few new items to her shop and maintain a good inventory aimed at responding to the demands from her clients.

Mamelitha’s participation in the Bukoba Women’s Empowerment Association has helped her to learn from other business women about best business practices and to create a community of support.
